ION-X contributes to the 69th session of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space
ION-X participated in the 69th session of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS), held in Vienna in June 2026, under the agenda item “Space and Sustainable Development.”
On this occasion, Miraslava Kazlouskaya, Business Development Manager at ION-X, delivered a technical presentation entitled “Responsible mobility for small satellites: A French deep-tech contribution to sustainable space operations.”
COPUOS provides a central international forum for discussions on the peaceful, safe and sustainable use of outer space. Its work addresses, among other matters, long-term space sustainability, orbital congestion, space debris mitigation and the continued development of the global space economy.
ION-X’s contribution focused on the role of propulsion as an enabling capability for responsible satellite operations. In particular, the presentation addressed how compact electric propulsion can support conjunction mitigation, controlled de-orbiting and sustainability by design throughout the mission lifecycle.
The presentation also underlined the importance of continued interaction between public authorities, international organisations and industrial stakeholders. As regulatory and policy frameworks evolve, their effective implementation will depend on the availability of technologies capable of translating sustainability objectives into operational measures.
ION-X’s participation in COPUOS reflects the growing contribution of industrial and technological actors to international discussions on the future of space activities, as well as France’s broader commitment to supporting innovation in sustainable space operations.
ION-X is proud to have contributed to this international dialogue and to have presented a French deep-tech perspective on the role of advanced propulsion technologies in supporting responsible mobility in orbit.
ION-X thanks the French Delegation, including CNES, the French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, and DGRIS, for the opportunity to contribute to the session, and acknowledges the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) for its continued role in supporting international cooperation in the peaceful and sustainable use of outer space.
