ION-X is proud to announce that it has been selected as one of the 12 winners of the CASSINI Challenges 2026, a European competition supporting innovative companies using EU Space Programme assets to address real-world commercial, social and environmental challenges.

The 2026 edition of the CASSINI Challenges placed a particular focus on commercial readiness, recognising solutions with strong potential for real-world adoption and market growth. Applications were evaluated on three core pillars: technology excellence, innovation level and commercial potential.

ION-X’s winning solution, the Modular Cluster Propulsion System HALO, was recognised for its potential to provide advanced support the future of in-orbit mobility. Based on ionic-liquid electrospray technology, the system integrates multiple propulsive heads with shared avionics to deliver higher total impulse and precise, low-power manoeuvring capabilities for satellites operating in Low Earth Orbit and Very Low Earth Orbit.

HALO is designed to support key operational needs such as constellation operations, rapid response to Space Surveillance and Tracking / Space Situational Awareness alerts, and the resilience of EU Space Programme infrastructures.
