ION-X Partners with C3S to Equip Estonia’s First Commercial Earth Observation Satellite

ION-X is proud to contribute its HALO-100X propulsion system to the OPS-SAT ORIOLE mission – Estonia’s first commercial Earth observation satellite – developed by Hungarian integrator C3S and supported by the European Space Agency’s ScyLight programme. Scheduled for launch in October 2026, this cutting-edge 12/16U-class satellite will demonstrate advanced optical communication, thermal infrared imaging, and low-power operation protocols from Low Earth Orbit.
HALO-100X thruster will provide precise maneuvering, long mission lifetime, debris avoidance, and reliable deorbiting capabilities. This collaboration highlights ION-X’s commitment to advancing European space innovation and enabling next-generation mobility solutions in orbit.
“I am delighted to witness the progress of this innovative collaboration, which sees our valued ESA Member States – Estonia, Hungary, and France – working together on the development of the OPS-SAT ORIOLE mission; not just by innovating Earth observation technologies, but also by advancing optical telecommunications and connectivity for the benefit of our citizens. This mission is supported under ESA’s Advanced Research in Telecommunications (ARTES) programme – investing in space is of utmost importance, enabling us to foster European innovation and create jobs and prosperity.”
